In Portland, Oregon when you go downtown, the downtown is full of homeless encampments. Tents, portapotties, needles, people wandering, the works.
"But Facebook’s research tells a clear story, and it’s not a happy one. Its younger users are flocking to Snapchat and TikTok, and its older users are posting anti-vaccine memes and arguing about politics. Some Facebook products are actively shrinking, while others are merely making their users angry or self-conscious."
Facebook, like the US government, manages and controls an area, US governement land/facebook digital presence. They both created shit ass rules that result in "undesirables" using their platform - but theyre the one who put them there. US government let the opioid epidemic rip across the country, US culture of individualism and destruction of the importance of family and glorification of the self-sufficient individual coupled with complete lack of mental health resources or ANY social resources leads to people who deal with homelessness, addiction, etc. They then have to resort to crime and begging in order to get by because of their inability to get a job due to employment culture - drug tests/discrimination/etc.
Facebook (FACEBOOK.COM) meanwhile were unable to create tools that actually empowered people to communicate publicly in a meaningful way, so people creating contect shifted to other sites. substack, medium, twitter, instagram etc. The result of this is that the people that they want to actually create content on their platform - "culture-creating, trendsetting, advertiser-coveted young Americans." - leave their site and theyre left with people who THEY created. the conspiracy theorists, bots, etc.
